The Nursery: Layla's Sweet Shoppe

Layla’s nursery was a long time coming. I decided relatively early (as soon as we found out we were having a girl) that I wanted to theme the nursery in a bakery/sweet shoppe. A “sugar and spice and everything nice” of sorts. I didn’t want to go the traditional pastel colored nursery route. I envisioned a variety of colors, mostly red, pink and white, but also yellow, green and aqua blue.

The nursery was a lot of DIY, re-purposing items we already had and shopping on a serious budget. Overall, I wanted to create a room that would make for an easy transition from a baby’s nursery into a little girl’s room. I will post several tutorials on the DIY projects so stay tuned. 😉 Without further ado… I present to you LAYLA’s nursery:

As previously mentioned, I made/re-purposed most of the room and will be posting tutorials. :)

Tutorials may include:

Red and White “Bakery Cafe” Awning

White with Red Trim Curtains

Red with White Scallops Dresser

Cake Stands

Donut Mobile

Giant Donut Pillow

Embroidery Hoop Felt “Sweets” Decor

Layla (Spelled out of Wooden Spoons)

Bed Headboard

Giant Pillows with Initials

Pennants

Fabric Braided Rag Rug

Red and White Scalloped Chalkboard

If you are interested in a particular tutorial… let me know. :)

Other items were also handmade, but I didn’t take pictures for a tutorial.

All in all, I really enjoyed creating a fun room for Layla. Now that she is more alert, I love taking her in there and watching her look around and stare at all of the bright colors and whimsical decor. I think she will have fun playing with the felt food and giant donut pillows when she gets older.

I hope you enjoyed your sweet shoppe tour. :)
