We Have a House!

Well… we’ve had a house all along. But we’ve been renting it out to another military family. Initially, we tossed around the idea of moving back into Jon’s old house. (Well technically Jon would be the only one moving “back into it”…It is the same house he lived in while we were dating, but we did not live together before we were married so I’ve technically never lived there.) Anyway, since we had renters living there now… we have been looking at buying another house. And, as discussed in a previous post, have not really been having much luck on the hunt.

Well… we’ve been praying for guidance and direction as to where the Lord wants us… and we are pretty certain we have our answer! Jon talked to our renters last night and they have found another home they were hoping to move into. Which worked out perfectly for us! God opened another door for them which opened the door for us to move back into the house we already have! And everyone is happy now! No more house hunting or living out of a hotel when we get out there. We couldn’t be more relieved. :)

After all of the houses we looked at a few weeks ago, we now appreciate the one we have more than ever! Don’t get me wrong, we were ready to roll up our sleeves and do some work to “fixer up”… but half the houses had unpermitted converted garages, water or termite damage and other nightmares you wouldn’t want to touch with a ten foot pole. Fixing cosmetic issues is something we can handle, but knowing you’re buying a money pit (before you can even address the cosmetic issues) is more than we wanted to deal with.

So now we know where we’re moving… I can’t wait to start making it a home!

I don’t know about you, but my style has changed quite a bit over the recent years. Maybe not changed but more of evolved. I still love my rustic country, western chic, farmhouse mix… but on top of that I’m loving cottage, “junktiques” and shabby styles. Oh my, such an eclectic mix of taste. How on earth will I ever make all of those  styles blend? haha

I do know that I am ready for a change. Something fresh.

Nothing huge… perhaps new colors, slipcovers, window treatments… that sort of thing.

Here are a few picture inspirations:

{via}

I am in love with ruffles! I can’t get enough of this tablecloth and yellow chairs!

{via}

Burlap with a ruffle edge? Be still my heart.

{via}

More ruffles! I love the idea of slipcovering chairs.

{via}

These are cute too!

{via}

I love the freshness of white. And I adore these slipcovers.

I am just trying to be realistic with two small dogs and a baby on the way… is white practical?

But it is so bright, fresh and soft looking. How many times can you wash a white slipcover? ;)

{via}

Y’all KNOW I can’t function without some red.

I like this kitchen. The white is fresh, the yellow is fun and the red accents make this room delightful!

{via}

And red gingham accents. I love the cottage-y look.

{via}

I have always been drawn to  warm buttercream yellow walls with red accents. And I love the retro, vintage-y flair.

{via}

Now, seriously.

I need to devise a plot to get Jon to let us have this floor.

Chicken pot pie for a year? Lasagna at his demand? I welcome any and all ideas. ;)

{via}

White and red again. Dreamy.

{via}

But check out this pale green! with aqua,  red and a pop of yellow!

I can’t take it anymore! I have to look away! ;)

Those are a few of my inspirations. Is it odd that I am more afraid of the absence of color than I am of painting a wall red? haha Seriously though. I’m scared that if I paint a room white, it will end up looking like dull, boring “builder” white. As in, we moved in but didn’t paint. So maybe a little color?

Oh, decisions decisions.

I know it’s not life or death (and certainly isn’t going to be treated as such) but a blank canvas is a very rare thing… and I can’t wait to get started! :)

I’d love to hear any ideas you guys have. :)

    I’m so happy for ya’ll. sounds like a win-win situation for you all. wonderful!

    I am loving your inspiration pics. I love each one and I too am in love with ruffles but ruffly stuff just isn’t in my budget.

    As far as color on the walls…my old house did not have one white wall in it. My new one has primarily taupe walls. Honestly I am loving the “break” from color. It’s taupe so its not white but not color either. I’m able to play with my accent colors more and change things out more without having to worry about it matching the walls. My thought was that if I painted the walls neutral one day if I want color its always easier to paint a color on neutral than color on color kwim?

    Whatever you decide to do I’m sure will turn out great. Can’t wait to see your new house!

  • Good for you…so happy you can move into your house :)
    As for ideas…my Mom turned her kitchen into a 50′s diner. It’s SO CUTE! She hired someone to make an actual red booth in the corner of the kitchen–it turned out so cute! Then she decorated the kitchen with all red, black and white retro things. Super cute!
    I’m sure whatever you decide to do will love great.

  • Congratulations. It is a Blessing to know God’s direction. We are house hunting too. We have to move because our rental is being sold. I cracked up when you mentioned your eclectic decorating. I am the same way. I love cowboy,rustic,farm house and I love romantic shabby chic. We found a house that we love and it is rather Olde World believe it or not. It will leaned toward our cowboy look fine with stained concrete and reclaimed lumber. But all my white furniture is going to a consignment shop! Oh well I love love love this house. Congrats on yours and I loved your eye candy. I’ll have so post some of the photo’s I have found for my new inspiration. Good luck with your move and many Blessings in your new old home!

    Boy, we sure can’t mess with God’s plan, can we? Great to hear that you were led in the right direction.

    I love white. Here is my theory on white. Stuff gets dirty, (even more so with kids) but if you have dark or muted colors throughout your house how would you know when it’s dirty? With white you know exactly the time anything needs to be washed. That’s the reason I love white towels. It is a little more upkeep, but I believe completely worth it. That being said, in high traffic areas I do have colored walls, but lots of white accents in linens, etc., but our entire Master is creamy white and I lurve it. Good luck and have fun decorating!

  • I love those pictures, my style is a little bit of all of those. But, oh my, I can not believe I have not been over here to visit sooner, I missed the big news…CONGRATULATIONS! Next to marrying Jon a baby is the best thing you will ever do.

  • Such exciting times for you!! Congrats on it all!! :)
