San Antonio Zoo

Off we go to the San Antonio Zoo! It just wouldn’t be right if we didn’t take a car picture to document….us in the car. 44

Ahoy! We drove right to the zoo!

66

First stop: the flamingos.

45

I could seriously watch my pink feathered friends all day!

46

…and Jon could imitate a pink feathered friend…all day.

47

Seriously buddy. We know you are in the water. The sign says so. We are not going to miraculously decide to go for a swim in the zoo pond. Sorry to disappoint you Mr. Croc-O-dile.

49

That’s right. Just soak up those rays. Right where I can get a picture of you.

60

Look! I’m on my back…Mate.

51

Ever wondered what Melissa looks like when she runs?

54

I’m sorry Mr. Rhino. I will never insult you like that again. My apologies.

Whatchoo lookin’ at Willis?

57

If a giraffe could have a “surprised” expression on it’s face… this one did. It looked absolutely shocked that we were there. It stared at us in disbelief for about 10 minutes. I stared back. And, eventually, the giraffe blinked first.

Why do I love Ostriches so cotton pickin’ much?

My guess is because their necks can do this:

55

The Ostrich had been expecting me. He did his best to smile for the camera.

56

Do not feed “The Elephant”.

And he was being fed.

Tsk. Tsk.

58

Taking a quick rest.

59

Have you ever seen an ant eater??

I never knew how fabulous these creatures really are!

61

My absolute favorite animal was the Grizzly Bear. She is elderly, hence, not as spry as she used to be. Which made me want to go pet her. I’m not so sure that would have worked out too well for me.

64

She hopped into her pool and ate an apple!

62

I know! An APPLE!

I think everyone spectating were equally as pleased to see a bear eating an apple. I’m not quite sure why we were all so shocked; even my dogs would eat an apple had they been given the opportunity. But a grizzly bear and an apple? Unbelievable.

63

Then she sat up.

Oooooo. Ahhhhhh.

But seriously! Look at those claws!

65

All I could see was Beth bear on the Muppets Take Manhattan movie.

Just a sneak peek into how my mysterious mind works.

Bethbear

And that bizarre correlation concluded our zoo day. Time to head back home.

68

And we drove away (again) into the Texas sunset. I apologize for not having a photo to document us in the car… but believe you me, we drove home.

I love the zoo!! We were hiking in AK once and ran across a mother and her cubs on the other side of a stream…we went another direction- FAST!

Your comment about the apple reminded me of Answers in Genesis- before the fall there was no death, so animals didn’t eat each other and those claws and teeth on so many animals were not used to kill.

Now I know that I am crazy because I really want to pet the ant eater!

P.S. Mr. Pumpkin Head arrived today with great fanfare. Thank you so much!
