Part 1: Hill Country Adventure!

Jon very rarely gets time off… so when we found out that he wasn’t going to be flying Friday or Saturday… we quickly put together some plans to get the heck out of dodge. Despite the looming nasty weather, we were on a mission to have some Texas Hill Country fun. :)

We made it into San Antonio on Friday afternoon… Exhibit A:

1

…and decided to have dinner at Freebirds. Jon loses his cotton pickin’ marbles for this place… he even plans his flights up to College Station just to eat lunch here. Lucky for him, we found one in San Antonio. πŸ˜‰

4

Pure joy.

2

Any place that has Lady Liberty crashing through the roof on a motorcycle is fine by me.

3

This pretty much sums it up.

5

Jon had his treat. Now it my turn to have mine.

Compromise is the name of our game.

Oh my sweet HomeGoods… how I’ve missed thee.

6

A little quality time Β in the HomeGoods and I feel rejuvinated. πŸ˜‰

Saturday morning we woke up bright and early and headed to beautiful Hill Country. Destination: Frederickburg!

73

This is what Fredericksburg looks like on a beautiful sunny day.

72

…and this is what Fredericksburg looked like when we got there.

76

Ok, so it is a little gloomy and rain clouds lurked overhead all day… that wasn’t about to ruin our good time. πŸ˜‰

Frederickburg has a ton of churches with beautiful architecture… check out some of these historical beauties:

7

70

I just love old churches.

71

We stopped in for lunch at this little cafe called Rather Sweet Bakery and Cafe.

9

It has been featured in several publications including Southern Living, Texas Monthly, Taste of the South and USA Today. It was tucked away in a garden-like setting…down a path that led to delcious food and goodies!

8

The owner and pastry chef of Rather Sweet, Rebecca Rather, has a few delightful books that she has written:

I had a chance to flip through the Christmas book in a little shop and it quickly became a must-have! I definitely put it on my list of things I REALLY want! πŸ˜‰

Jon found Fleet Admiral Nimitz’s house. πŸ˜‰

10

… and off to walk around to see the fine quality products that only Texas can offer…like this one:

11

hahaha.

12

Such rivalry. Hilarious.

13

All of our walking around burned so many calories that we were forced to replenish ourselves at the ice cream shop.

15

Ma’am, step away from the bakery case.

16

Whoops. How did this beautiful Pecan bar end up on my table?

17

I suppose the same way that double-scoop ice cream cone ended up in Jon’s hand. πŸ˜‰

14

Off to burn off the astronomical amount of calories we just inhaled.

Such a vicious cycle.

A few more shops:

74

75

My personal favorite was Henfeathers. SO cute. Look at those red and white polka dots… I just knew I was going to be bosom buddies with this store.

18

Bidding adieu to Fredericksburg. Parting this place really is such sweet sorrow.

77

Goodbye. Ta-ta. Toodaloo. Until next time… and there WILL be a next time. I found this unbelievable Hangar Hotel in Fredericksburg on the internet. I just HAVE to show you! All pictures are from the Hangar HotelΒ website.

The hotel is in a hangar… and the decor is all 1940s style. I’m seriously in love. Does it get any better?? Just look at this!

84

86

87

Airplanes. Be still my heart.

85

They even have a 1940s diner!

89

I can hardly stand how much I love this!

88
I’ll tell you what. I didn’t get the Hangar Hotel this time… but next time, Gadget. Next time.

And away we go… off to our next Hill Country town:

GRUENE!

Stay tuned for Part 2 of our Hill Country Adventure tomorrow!

I’m so jealous! I love Fredricksburg. My Dad actually lives less than an hour from there but we are always so busy doing family stuff we never go.

I hope you are having a great trip. Keep us posted!
