In remembrance of those who gave their lives for our freedom…
Dear Heavenly Father,
As we remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, we think of how they have followed in the footsteps of your son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Please hold our service men and women in your strong arms. Cover them with your sheltering grace and presence as they stand in the gap for our protection.
We also remember the families of our troops, and ask for your unique blessings to fill their homes and your peace, provision and strength to fill their lives.
May the members of our armed forces be filled with courage to face each day and may they trust in the Lord’s mighty power to accomplish each task. Let our military brothers and sisters feel our love and support.
In the name of Jesus. Amen.
Memorial Day Cherry Blueberry Pie
Ingredients needed:
Crust:
1 1/2 cup flour
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
3 tbsp milk
2/3 cup vegetable oil
Mix together until ball of dough forms. Pat out into pan. Make additional crust for pie top.
Filling:
1/2 cup sugar
2 tbsp cornstarch
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling
1 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
Mix sugar, cornstarch and cinnamon.
Add cherry pie filling and blueberries. Mix.
Pour into prepared crust.
Roll out second crust on floured wax paper.
Cut out star shapes with cookie cutter.
You can find a pack of 4 sizes of stars at Michaels for $2.99!
Place top onto pie.
I have found that it is easiest to turn the crust upside down onto the pie and peel away the wax paper.
You can place the cut out
dough on top of the pie for a 3-D effect. Whatever suits your fancy.

Garnish:
1 egg white
1 tsp water
2 tsp sugar
Beat egg white and water until blended. Brush over top of crust. Sprinkle sugar on top.
Bake:
Place foil over crust edge and place in preheated oven at 425 degrees. Bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until crust is golden brown. Cool for at least 2 hours prior to serving.
