How to Help Haiti Earthquake Victims.

{via National Geographic}

I can’t even fathom the devastation that Haiti is dealing with. Speculation of over 100,000 people dead. ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND. My heart breaks for these people; they have lost everything.

There are people there helping NOW.
There are people on their way.

They need our support, our supplies, our resources, our compassion.

Like everyone else, I feel so helpless.
I am so far away.
What can I do?

I have compiled a list of organizations you can donate to for immediate relief:

Compassion: A gift of $35 will help one family receive emergency supplies of food and clean water for about one week. (But any donation will obviously be accepted)

American Red Cross: Disaster Relief Fund.

Also, you can donate $10 to the American Red Cross, text Haiti to 90999. The amount will be added to your next phone bill.

Action Against Hunger: Their website has updated that they “have launched an immediate response to assist the victims of the devastating earthquake that hit Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Our teams on the ground are already carrying out rapid evaluations across the city, while additional support, equipment, and materials—including water treatment supplies, emergency vehicles, and communications equipment—are en route from our bases in the city of Gonaives.”

ActionAid: “‘After the initial emergency has passed ActionAid will also help poor people to rebuild their homes and restart their livelihoods.’ When emergencies occur, ActionAid responds efficiently and effectively in the short term through our Strategic Crisis Fund, which allows immediate disbursement of funds for rapid or slow-onset humanitarian response, such as providing medicines, food and shelter to people in need.”

Operation USA: Operation USA Prepares Emergency Aid in Response to Earthquakes in Haiti. For the full story click here.

Help Haiti Now: Help Haiti Now is a non-profit 501c3 organization which provides food, water, medicine, and educational support to the poor in Haiti.

Interaction: The most comprehensive list of organizations accepting donations for the Haiti Earthquake disaster that I have seen yet.

We might be unable to give as much as we would like to help out the victims of this tragedy… but we cannot do NOTHING. Anything helps.

Above all else, the Haitians need our PRAYERS. Remember to lift them up to our good and gracious Lord, whose peace and comfort transcends all understanding.

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.  Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.” Psalm 46:1-3

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

May the Haitians be in all of hearts and prayers,
