Airplanes and Texas Sunsets.

Two of my absolute favorite things.

It all started in the car on the way home from a day in Corpus Christi.

Jon and I always play the airplane game. Whoever spots and identifies the aircraft and/or airline first, wins. or gets a point. not that it matters since we never keep track of points. but still.

We like airplanes. and we like winning. so we play.

Southwest is by far the easiest to identify. Not only is the Boeing 737 easily recognizable from a far distance, but hello. it is periwinkle! (Ok, fine. Canyon Blue… but it looks periwinkle to me.) and orange, red and gold. But I still called it first. Go me.

Woah Nelly! Look at that sunset.

Suddenly, like a ton of bricks, it hit me.

I came to the sobering realization that I am leaving these sunsets soon. We will be moving from Texas in less than two months. I am pretty sure I started hyperventilating at this point… absolutely terrified that I will forget what Texas sunsets are like… The only consolation was to take pictures…lots and lots of pictures…to always remind me how much I love this place and it’s spectacular sunsets.

From this point on, I just lost my marbles with the picture taking.

6798101112131415161718192021222324The sky kept transforming before me with a spectacular array of vibrant colors. It was breathtaking. Of course my point and shoot camera could hardly capture the brilliance of the sunset. And I’m sure being in a car traveling at 75 mph while taking these pictures may have had something to do with it, too.

And when the camera’s battery finally died, I resorted to pictures from my phone.

25Yes. I truly had lost my marbles.

But at least I captured a few images to always remember just how lucky I have been to experience life in the great state of Texas. Amen to that.

How do you always make me love Texas more? Thank you for this. I’m a Texan and may I dare say I take being a Texan for granted. But just when I don’t think about a beautiful sunset or some yummy food we have here or some really cute antique shops, YOU remind me of how glorious Texas is.

You will always have Texas in your heart honey. You have embraced it in ways that have inspired me. Thank you for sharing your love for our state! xo

    Melissa…
Love your game! That is too cool–you guys crack me up!
WAY TO GO with guessing Southwest. Maybe Steve was flying that plane…he he!
Also, where are you guys moving? Please say Las Vegas :)

That would be too funny if it was Steve! đŸ˜‰

I wish we were moving to Vegas! We don’t have orders yet…but our two options are Virginia or California. We’re crossing our fingers for California…but won’t be devastated if we get Virginia. Both places have their pros and cons. Hopefully we’ll find out for sure by the beginning of February! Eeek!
