4th of July Part 2: The Festivities

…More fun from our 4th of July weekend. (cont’d from this post)

Getting ready to go to dinner with the family… it occurred to me that Jon and I hardly ever get pictures together that aren’t us scrambling in front of the self timer only to get a wonky, slant-ways, out-of-focus picture. haha So we took advantage of the extra hands that were around. πŸ˜‰

My sister, Emily, and me.

My dogs, Dolly and Dallas, are staying with my parents while we are finishing renovations at our house… and we miss them something fierce. (Although I am sure Dolly and Dallas are having the time of their lives there; they might not even want to come home! haha)

Jon and Dolly having a little belly-rubbing bonding time.

Oh. Hello.

Can I help you?

Dolly… in all of her glory.

Dallas enjoys an ear rub after a long nap.

I’m telling you… the life of a dog is rough.

And then there are my parents’ two dogs. Toby and Charlie.

Toby and his ball.

You will never see this dog without a ball in his mouth.

He could play fetch all day. Scratch that… He expects to play fetch all day.

He is small, but mighty.

And then there is Charlie.

“Hi there. I don’t even know you and I already love you.”

Yes. Charlie is the spittin’ image of the dog from the movie “UP”… personality and all.

Toby wasn’t the only one playing fetch this weekend.

My dad and Jon couldn’t get enough of their Frisbee Golf.

I got in on the action… and my Frisbee ended up in the pool.

It must have been those gusty winds. πŸ˜‰

Needless to say, my Frisbee Golf experience was short lived.

I’d rather pick my mom’s flowers for the table. πŸ˜‰

Agapanthes for my blue. Close enough, right? πŸ˜‰

And then it was eatin’ time!

We had all sorts of goodies that made us feel all American…

Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Hot Links, BBQ Corn on the Cob, Beans, Watermelon, Salads… and of course, Cherry Pie.

I wish I had the foresight to take a picture of all the food… but my stomach was growlin’ and that was the last thing on my mind. haha

In a food coma. Relaxing.

We waited our 30 minutes… and then it was pool time! Well, for Jon and our niece and nephew anyway.

Ella and Jon getting prepared to race…

…meanwhile, Luke was satisfied with the bubblers on the ledge…. where the water is shallow.

Jessica and me…

…and my ridiculous brother in the background. Of course I discover his monkey business days after the picture was taken. haha How could I expect anything less?

Luke all bundled up.

…with that little grin.

Meanwhile, Β Ella is still swimming around in the spa. She is like a little fish!

The sun was setting and the air was cooling… it was the perfect time to sit around the fire.

…Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society, I call this story, “the tale of the 4th of July fire”. Where is my “Midnight Dust”… to make the fire explode?
Oh, was I the only one that watched Nickelodeon’s “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” as a kid? haha
I apologize.

Jon has an app on his phone that lets you point it toward the night sky and it will show you what constellations you are looking at through GPS. I’m not sure who enjoyed it more… Ella or Uncle Jon. πŸ˜‰

We watched fireworks from the backyard… you don’t have to go far to get a good show. Our neighbors know how to do it right. πŸ˜‰

Getting ready for s’mores…

It turned out to be a great weekend.

Nothing elaborate… just a good time celebrating with family.

It was exactly the kind of weekend we needed. :)

I hope y’all had a great 4th of July, too!
